Swimming in the open water: Toftasjön
From Toftasjön's bathing place it is nice to swim straight across the lake to the other side.
The Sandsbro neighborhood in northern Växjö has a bathing area in each lake, Helgasjön and Toftasjön. From Toftasjön's bathing place it is nice to swim straight across the lake to the other side. It is a distance of about 700 meters. Take a rest at the beach edge of the Notteryd Nature Reserve and catch your breath before swimming back again. This part of Toftasjön does not have as much boat traffic, but be sure to keep yourself well visible.
The swimming season in Sweden may be very short, but the season for swimming in open water is hapily a bit longer. In short or long model wetsuits it is possible to do cardio sports in the lakes in Växjö from May to September. It is a wonderful feeling of freedom to leave the swimming pool's bottom lines and turning points and stretch out swim after swim in fresh fresh water.
Keep in mind that it is important not to swim alone. Bring a swimming buddy as company and safety so you can help each other in case something happens. If you do not have the opportunity to have someone with you, make sure to hire a friend as a "lifeguard" on land that you can signal to if you have any problems. Talk in advance about where to swim and for how long time. To be more visible in the water, it may be good to wear a colorful bathing cap or a colorful swimming buoy that is attached to a strap around your stomach.
