Nature reserve Utnäsuddens övärld
This nature reserve is filled with islands. You can find several types of trees, different islands and a rich birdlife in this nature reserve.
Utnäsuddens övärld is situated by lake Åsnen. You can find both a beach, the lake and wetlands here.
The reserve was founded in 1995 and is shared by Växjö and Tingsryds municipality. Utnäsuddens övärld consists of a peninsula and a number of smaller and larger lakes, with different kinds of nature on them. Two of the islands, Stora och lilla Almö (which translates to Large and small Elmisland), have a lot of broad-leaved deciduous forests on them, which consist of elm trees, as the name indicates.
The peninsula has broad-leaved deciduous forests as well, but the dominant tree species there is oak. The island Harö has actually coniferous forest instead. The forests are currently untouched but they used to be grazed. The birdlife is very rich, with for example osprey, Eurasian Hobby, European Honey Buzzard, Northern Goshawk, Black-throated diver, Red-breasted merganser, wood-pigeon, Black Woodpecker and Lesser spotted Woodpecker. There is even a chance of seeing a Golden Eagle and sea eagle during the winter.
Please, be aware of that some parts of the reserve are forbidden to enter during some parts of the year, to make sure that the birds are not disturbed when they breed. Some roads that lead to the reserve are private. Therefore, we recommend that you either hike or bike 3-4 kilometers from the old church of Jät to find this hidden gem among the islands of Åsnen.
