Nature reserve Evedalsåsen

Evedalsåsen is a part of the boulder-ridge Växjöåsen. Evedalsåsen is a part of the Växjöåsen.

Växjöåsen is an esker, which Evedalsåsen is a part of. It was created about 10 000 years ago when the inland ice melted. That created the landscape we see today with boulder-ridges, hills and holes. The nature reserve was founded in 1970. The area around the esker has mixed forests and a lot of thick pine trees and fir trees. The storm Gudrun wind threw many trees here in 2005. Therefore, there is a lot of dead wood which is a perfect living space for mushrooms, insects and birds. Some examples of birds in the area are Black Woodpecker, wren, marsh tit, goldcreast and Willow Warbler. Wild strawberries and veronica grows here as well. In several places on the esker you can find what are known as kettle holes. These formed when a block of ice, which was embedded in the gravel, melted.
