Bokhultet is situated just some kilometers from the center of Växjö city. Bokhultet was a popular excursion goal already during the 19th century. The lake, forests and the open pasture lands makes it possible to enjoy the nature all year around. You can run, bike or walk here. The forest is the most dominant part of the reserve, and it consists mainly of beech trees. The beech forest is special since there are few plants growing beneath the trees and when the buds burst in the springtime, the trees get a lovely light green color. The area has a diversity both when it comes to flora and fauna. About 200 species of birds have been spotted here, such as Lesser Spotted Woodpecker, grosbeak and Red-Brestead Flycatcher. Therefore, there is also a bird-watching tower in the reserve. There are also a lot of rare species when it comes to insects, mushrooms, moss and lichens, for example the butterfly purple-edged copper and coral tooth fungus. The deciduous forest has been allowed to grow old, and the insects thrive on the remains of dead trees and stumps. Apart from the forest, there is also a marsh, a mowed meadow, a beach, wetlands and a bog here. When it comes to exercising, there are 3 paths to follow, in the colors red, yellow and blue.
