Vartorp mill is located about 25 km north of Växjö. The mill is situated where the river Mörrumsån flows into Lake Övrasjön. The fine old stone building from the 1860s is now completely restored and fully functioning. It is today owned by Växjö municipality. For long periods of time, the mill was an important part of the local farming industry. After WWII however, the mill was not commercially used and started to show signs of age. Thanks to exceptional renovation efforts, the mill has been fully restored and is now under the care of the Söraby Local History Association. Once a year on "Waterwheel Day", the association holds an open house in the mill. The mill's wheel is set in motion and fresh bread is baked in the mill's stone ovens. You can walk around and look at the mill and the surroundings.
