Sweden's southernmost working lock is situated in Åby. The lock is situated in the beautiful natural environment between Lake Helgasjön and Lake Skavenässjön. It was built in 1887 and has been very important for transportation and trade between Växjö and areas above Åby.
The total length of the lock is 35,8 meters, and it is almost 5 meters wide. It has a depth of 1,7 at the mean see-level. 30-meter long boats can pass through here. During the summer, you can go with the steamboat Thor through the lock.
