The grand and impressive building offers a classical design with modern conveniences. The history of Elite Stadshotell dates back to the 1850s. Today the hotel is part of the hotel chain Elite hotels of Sweden which runs thirty hotels in the country. The building, which locally is called "Statt", is centrally located at the main square in the city of Växjö, only 200 meters from the central station. The hotel is a good base for day trips in the region.

The rooms are divided into several different standard classes ranging from small single rooms to suites. Two of the suites have their own sauna. Guests have free access to wireless internet, the gym and the nearby fitness studio for group training sessions. The whole hotel is smoke-free.

Parking is available on the market place directly outside the hotel. On working days 09.00-18.00 and on Saturdays 09.00-12.00 parking is for a fee. The weekly market takes place on the northern side on the square on Wednesdays and Saturdays, which is why it is recommended to always park on the southern side (closer to the hotel). There are further parking options one apartment block from the hotel.

The hotel's pub The Bishop's Arms is a popular meeting place as well as the restaurant Lagerlunden Bistro & Bar. Grace nightclub is open Fridays and Saturdays from autumn to spring. The hotel also offers conference and banqueting rooms with capacity for up to 200 people in the largest hall.
